Crystal View - Reports Edition Until Crystal Reports 9, it had always been possible to distribute reports around an organisation using the Report Compilation Expert. Users could not modify reports, but were given a simple interface to view reports created by experts elsewhere. After the release of Crystal Reports 9, this functionality is only available by having a dedicated web reporting server and buying Crystal Reports Advanced. Many users still need a simple, easy to use application that allows them to view reports in a Windows application without requiring the complexities of a reporting server. To address this, Chase International has released Crystal View supporting all versions of Crystal Reports up to and including version 9. Crystal View users simply specify a folder that contains their reports. They select the report to view from a simple drop down list. If a report contains saved data, the user has the option to view the saved data or to refresh from the data source. ![]() Crystal View - Enterprise Edition Users of Crystal Enterprise often find that the ePortfolio interface provides excessive complexity and functionality that they do not need. Many users just want to view the latest instance of the few reports to which they are authorised without having to navigate the folders or to set up favourites. With this in mind, Crystal View allows users to connect to a Crystal Enterprise Server and to list just the latest instance of their report. FInding a report is now simply a matter of selecting the report from the drop down list. The latest instance is automatically selected. All Crystal Enterprise security is enforced ensuring users can only see the reports for which they are authorised. Users must login to Crystal Enterprise when they first download their list of reports. All Crystal Enterprise licensing models are supported, though the greatest benefit is to users with Concurrent Access Licenses. Crystal View only uses a license briefly to collect the list of reports and again to download the report for viewing. The efficiency of operation allows for a far greater number of users to be supported with a given number of licenses when using a browser interface.
